Airing of The Story Bridge on TV

Writer: Jeffrey BingleyJeffrey Bingley

We are excited that The Story Bridge will be broadcast on community Television, from October 22 to November 2nd. Keeping with our model to maximize the benefits to community, we encourage Bhutanese and mainstream Canadians in Lethbridge to use the film as an opportunity to get to know one another better. Take this opportunity to answer questions and build rapport and bridging connections between members of different groups. Take time to talk to local family members about the film as many of the film's contributors had the rising generation also in mind.

(Bingley, 2016, P.65)

We already know that when the film was initially screened to audiences the first 240 people to see it reacted positively to the film. (Bingley, (2016) Transformative Filmmaking in Resettlement: Refugees Addressing Acculturation Gaps, Concordance, and Cohesion in Canada. p.59-68) For this reason I feel confident that making the film available for viewing within the Lethbridge area offers benefits to those who have settled in Lethbridge from Bhutan and Nepal. It also provides opportunity to strengthen the welcoming attitudes of the overall community and encourages groups to engage cross-culturally to build a more resilient multiculturalism.

The announcement caught me be surprise so I have not had time to prepare to collect feedback data from the general city-wide audience, though I would have loved to do so, especially if a sample broad enough to create statistically significant results could have been created.

I hope everyone in the Bhutanese community of Lethbridge is able to enjoy this time of increased awareness.
